Dancing at Dawn on May Day in Totnes Castle
Just as the sun was rising on Monday 1st May 2017, around 5:45am, Dartington Morris Men once again danced at Totnes Castle. We were delighted to have a small but dedicated audience on a drizzly morning. As is often the case, we were able to drive away the rain with a collection of dances and songs over the following 45 minutes!
In common with a number of Morris dance teams elsewhere in the UK, we dance at dawn on May Day each year to mark the beginning of our summer dance programme.
We love to dance the sun up at various lovely spots across South Devon, and have done so from places such as Dartmoor tors and coastal locations like Burgh Island. This year we have chosen once again to dance in Totnes Castle, one of our favourite spots for May Day (with the permission of English Heritage).
